International celebration Sat., May 14

Ten Thousand Villages is a nonprofit, fair trade retail store that offers Boise consumers quality home décor items, baskets, jewelry and musical instruments handcrafted by talented artisans in Africa, Asia and Latin America.

Ten Thousand Villages Boise, which opened in November 1995, is a part of the Ten Thousand Villages network of more than 100 stores across North America.

On Saturday, May 14, Ten Thousand Villages in Boise will join an international celebration that includes retailers and artisans from Vietnam to England to Boise. IFAT, the International Fair Trade Association and the Fair Trade Federation established World Fair Trade Day as an international celebration in May 2002.

Through fair trade, artisans and farmers in Africa, Asia and Latin America receive fair prices for their handcrafted products and crops as well as cash advances and prompt payments. Consistent orders as well as fair prices give artisans dignity and an opportunity to provide for their families and dream of the future.
